Housing Crisis? I Suggest Governments Globally Should Do THIS
I have been living in Taiwan and Japan. The real estate price has been going up all the time, just like many other countries. And this is especially true in the capitals or big cities where finding jobs is easier than rural cities.
Not long ago, I came to read this article on WEForum titled “There’s a desperate need for housing, so why isn’t more being built?”. The article is well written with many stats and supporting evidence about the things we already know — that is, the developable land is getting rare and population is growing.
But there is no solution offered.
You know the stats in the country where you’re living now better than me, and some of you might know the situation in several regions. So I’m not here to talk about the dry data which can be searched easily.
Here, I’m proposing a solution, and my English is not very good so bear with me if there are grammar mistakes.
The solution is to limit the maximum size of living floor in highly condensed cities. It’s that simple.
We’ve all seen the skyscraper buildings in Hong Kong
The most extreme example is so called “蝸居" (Snail Living Unit),where you pay rent for a flat that equals the size of a bed.
And in the other hand, the rich people living in HUGE flats or houses covering hundreds of square meters.
What if the the law limits the maximum flat/house floor to 200 or 300 square meters? How many more land can be freed up and more flats can be built within the limited land!
The rich can afford living in a house of 600 or even 1000 square meters, but that doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do. Resources are limited, the earth is limited, a piece of land gone is the lost of several small eco-systems, the damage it brings impact everyone of us — after all, when the climate gets warmer, we all suffer!
Let’s make the world a better place, one piece of land at a time.
